Part IV : Adding Speech Bubbles

Dialogue is everything to gamic, this is where your storyboard reference come to picture. You will need to construct speech / thought bubble for your characters. The typical best font to use for speech bubble is MS Comic Sans - you can try and find other fonts if you want and use it. We will be using the existing panel pasted on the new canvas, always save the original copy first before proceeding further.

There’s a separate tutorial to install font in windows here.
Note : Remember once you have installed a font make sure you restart the graphical editing software, so that it refreshes the font list.

To create a speech bubble always create a layer above the original pasted panel. Let’s start with creating layer itself.

To your right click the Add New Layer button that looks like + sign (see Figure 1.7)

Figure 1.8 : Draw a dialogue box.

Select the new layer by clicking on it. Mouse your mouse over to the desire location to create a speech bubble box. Draw a rectangle shape on the selected new layer. This newly created layer is separated from the background - making editing easier.

Figure 1.9 : Paintbucket tool and selecting primary color

Once, you have created a rectangle box click on the paint bucket tool. This paint bucket tool will paint on selected area based on the primary color. Try clicking on the white colored box to change the default black color to white. Go ahead pick a color white under primary color and click on the selected rectangle area. (Note : You can also use this quick shortcut “Backspace” as it will automatically fill the primary color to the selected field)
