Tammy’s GamicPress Corner #8
Let’s move on to the Plot!
The Plot is the order of events in a narrative or any other type of story. You can call it a structure of the story.
Elements of plot:
- Initial situation - the beginning. It is the first incident that makes the story move. Explain to readers history of the world and how the problem/conflict happens. Usually I place this in Prologue.
- Conflict or Problem - goal which the main character of the story has to achieve. Let’s take Icywolfy’s Time Crisis for example, he uses Time Anomaly Crisis as the “Problem” to get his story moving.
- Complication - obstacles which the main character has to overcome. Most of the episodes in Time Crisis does have some small “complication” e.g. Gunner’s needs help from Coachma to build a time machine just to get back to Foxie.
- Climax - highest point of interest of the story. Ahhh…this is the part where you reveal the most of the connections and big secrets which will blow your reader off.
- Suspense - point of tension. It arouses the interest of the readers. Yup, conflicts, arguement and battle scenes fits here do break these into chapters when you write…coz, this is what SUSPENSE is all about.
- Denouement or Resolution - what happens to the character after overcoming all obstacles/failing to achieve the desired result and reaching/not reaching his goal. Ahhh, yes sometimes emo-part fits here, after some character does something and reveals something which touches reader heart…awwww….so nice :3
- Conclusion - the end of the story - I have a habit of not letting the story end just like that. I like to tease with a spin-off story from the ending >:3 evil.
To start imagining and writing, try filling up these 7 points. This will help you draft the structure of the whole storyline. To start writing a storyline draft Click + Add Items, look for Script and select Text.
Celtx is a very powerful software used by directors, storyboard writers, even some comic book writers too, however not every features will be used to write storyline for gamics - it helps in organizing references, character profiles and draft storyline in one environment.
You are free to explore and watch some tutorials video in youtube on how to use this software on other aspect especially those of you planning to be a great director or professional fiction writer someday :3. Good Luck!
